Food hygiene inspections

We inspect food premises to ensure they comply with food hygiene and safety requirements.  This can be as part of our programme of inspections or in response to a complaint.  We do not need to make an appointment to inspect premises and we will usually turn up at food establishments without prior notice.

At an inspection we look at:

  • hygiene procedures (temperature control, personal hygiene, training, disposal of fat, oil and grease, pest control, Ecoli guidance, vacuum packing, sous vide, water supply)
  • structure (walls, floors, equipment, cleaning)
  • management (food hygiene records, micro business sheets)

More information about inspections can be found on the FSA website.

Our Food Safety Service Plan (pdf 699kb) sets out our service objectives over the next two years.
