The benefits of walking

Physical activity such as walking can improve your health and reduce the risk of developing several diseases like type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease. Physical activity can have immediate and long-term health benefits.

To stay healthy, adults should try to be active daily and should do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic activity such as cycling or fast walking every week.

Start Active, Stay Active updates the existing guidelines for the physical activity needed for general health benefits for different children, young people and adults, and includes for the first time in the UK, guidelines for early years and older people.e
