Halifax

BRP accepted as single ID – customers can provide this alone to set up a basic bank account with Halifax. This is part of their provision for Ukrainian refugees

They would like other forms of ID as well if possible. ID accepted:

  • Proof of address
  • Charity letter
  • GP letter
  • Passport
  • Proof of benefit

Same day bank account. Card will arrive 5 working days later.

They have exemptions/waivers in place for Ukrainian refugees.

HSBC

Proof of refugee status (BRP, home office letter) can be used as single ID for basic bank account if coming in via Homes for Ukraine.

If coming in via Friends and Family route, standard ID procedures apply.

Accepts some forms of Ukrainian ID

Other forms of ID preferred if possible. They have exemptions/waivers in place for Ukrainian refugees.

  • Birth Cert (including for under 21s)

Needs proof of address and ID.

ID: BRP, Passport, Home Office doc accepted as ID

Address: Letter from Home Office, Doctors letter, Proof of benefit

Same day for bank account. Card takes standard 5 working days.

They have plans for bespoke support for Ukrainian refugees. This support has not yet been announced. One of us will return to TSB to get the information on what support they’re offering.
