Volunteers invited to help restore meadow at Fremington Local Nature Reserve

Fremington LNR

Volunteers are invited to take part in a conservation day at Fremington Local Nature Reserve (LNR) on Sunday, 16 March, from 10am to 3pm.

Organised by Fremington LNR management group and North Devon Council, the event will focus on preparing a recently cut meadow by raking off debris to allow more sunlight to reach the soil. This will create better conditions for wildflowers to germinate, improving biodiversity and enhancing the natural habitat.

Councillor Ricky Knight, Lead Member for Climate and Biodiversity at North Devon Council, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for the community to get hands-on in supporting local biodiversity. Wildflower meadows are vital for pollinators and other wildlife, and by helping to clear the area, volunteers will play an important role in improving the habitat at Fremington Local Nature Reserve.”

Participants should bring stout footwear, with wellies recommended as there will be a small stream to cross. They should also wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring a drink, a packed lunch, gardening gloves and a rake if available.

As the event is weather-dependent, those wishing to take part must register in advance by emailing Steve at tarkawildliferangers@gmail.com. Once registered, participants will be provided with details of the meeting point.

This is an opportunity to support local wildlife and enjoy time outdoors while contributing to the care of Fremington LNR.
