North Devon Council advises residents on upcoming bank holiday waste collections

North Devon Council recycling bins and bags

As the Easter and early May bank holidays approach, North Devon Council is reminding residents to check their waste and recycling collection schedules online to avoid any confusion over the holiday period.

There will be no waste or recycling collections on Good Friday (18 April 2025). Instead, collections due that day will take place on Saturday 19 April. For the week commencing Monday 21 April, all collections will run one day later than usual, from Tuesday 22 April to Saturday 26 April.

Normal collection schedules will resume on Monday 28 April, but the council is reminding residents that due to the early May bank holiday, collections will again be one day later than usual, running from Tuesday 6 May to Saturday 10 May.

With Easter celebrations leading to increased cardboard, foil, and plastic waste, the North Devon community are being encouraged to recycle responsibly. Cardboard and brown paper should be placed in brown recycling bags, while scrunched-up foil and plastics (excluding black plastic) should be placed in the black/green recycling box.

Paul Burton, Service Manager for Refuse and Recycling, said: “I am encouraging residents to plan ahead and check their collection dates on our website in advance. Our website provides all the necessary information regarding the bank holiday changes, and we also offer guidance on what items can be recycled and where."

To prevent missed collections, residents are advised to place their bins, bags, and containers at the kerbside by 6am on their scheduled collection day or the evening before.

For the latest updates, residents can visit the council’s website, follow them on Facebook and Instagram, or subscribe to email bulletins.
