The Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon is urging people with interesting stories to tell to get in touch. Following the success of last year’s call out, the Museum is once again looking for local groups and organisations that would like to take part in the programme of exhibitions that will be shown in its Community Gallery in 2026.
Previous exhibitions held in the Community Gallery have included a centenary celebration of Banbury’s Department Store and an exhibition documenting an 18-month storytelling and poetry project led by Katy Lee about travelling the length of the River Taw from source to sea. Currently on display in the gallery is an exhibition marking the 25th anniversary of North Devon Homes.
Museum Manager, Alison Mills, said, “We believe that all North Devon communities have a story worth telling, and we want to help bring those stories to life. Whether it’s a milestone anniversary, an interesting project, or an untold piece of history, we invite local groups and organisations to share with us. This is a chance to celebrate our shared heritage, uncover hidden gems, and ensure that our Museum reflects the voices and experiences of the people who make the North Devon community unique.”
Local groups or organisations with a project, story, celebration or anniversary that they consider to be of interest to the Museum and communities across North Devon are asked to visit the Museum website for full details and an application form.
All groups and organisations selected to be part of the 2026 exhibition programme will be supported throughout the process, from the planning stages through to the display and promotion of the exhibition.
The deadline for proposals is Monday 31 March 2025. For further information, visit the Museum website www.barnstaplemuseum.org.uk or contact the Museum by e-mailing museum@northdevon.gov.uk.
