Community facilities in Chulmleigh are being boosted by more than £36,000 of public open space funding from North Devon Council.
The council's strategy and resources committee approved the release of Section 106 funds at its meeting on Monday, 7 April 2025.
Chulmleigh Parish Council will receive £36,935.60 towards the cost of improvements at Red Lion Corner. The project includes the provision of a shelter, planters, seating and a cycle stand.
The allocation is funded from contributions from the Leigh Road development. The remainder of the scheme's cost will be funded by the parish council.
Chief Executive of North Devon Council, Ken Miles, said: "It's very pleasing to see our S106 funding being used to improve open spaces and enhance them for residents to enjoy. I'd like to thank Chulmleigh Parish Council for bringing this proposal forward and we look forward to seeing it take shape."
Under Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, contributions can be sought from developers towards the costs of providing extra community and social infrastructure as a result of the impact of new development in the area. These contributions can only be used for certain things, and are used primarily for public open space projects.
