North Devon Council is proud to announce the arrival of a new fleet of 16 kerbside recycling vehicles, signalling a significant advancement in the district's commitment to sustainability and efficient waste management.
The new vehicles, all manufactured by Romaquip, have been supplied through the council's strategic partnership with Specialist Fleet Services Ltd (SFS). Following a collaborative procurement initiative with Somerset West and Taunton Council in September 2021, North Devon Council awarded a 7-year contract to SFS for the provision and management of over 200 vehicles, reflecting a shared dedication to eco-friendly and reliable practices.
Designed with ergonomic precision, the Romaquip Kerb-Sort vehicles feature seven fully enclosed compartments, minimising litter risk and enabling the separate storage of various materials. These vehicles are equipped to load from both sides simultaneously, and advanced features such as automatic compaction of plastics, cans, and cardboard optimise load space.
Furthermore, the vehicles have a cleaner engine type which aligns with environmental goals, making the fleet greener and contributing to reduced environmental impact.
Leader of North Devon Council, Cllr Ian Roome, says: “The arrival of our new fleet marks a significant step in our commitment to sustainability. These vehicles enhance our recycling efforts, ensuring a more efficient and eco-friendly collection process for the benefit of our community and the environment.”
Managing Director of SFS, Bob Sweetland, says: "We are pleased to be able to provide North Devon Council with this fleet of vehicles, which will help to maximise the amount of recycling that is collected, in an efficient and safe way.”
