North Devon Council has committed to enhancing community amenities in Burrington, Heasley Mill, and Lovacott through a funding boost of £12,158.34. This significant investment, approved at the recent Strategy and Resources Committee meeting on Monday, 4 November 2024, will see the release of Section 106 Public Open Space Funds aimed at vital upgrades to local facilities.
Following unanimous approval from the Strategy and Resources Committee, the funds will be allocated as follows:
- Burrington Parish Council will receive £1,612.84 to install energy-efficient LED lighting at Burrington Village Green, improving safety and usability while promoting sustainability.
- Heasley Mill Village Hall will benefit from a £6,595.50 investment to upgrade its windows to double-glazing, enhancing energy efficiency, comfort, and lowering energy costs for the community space.
- Horwood, Lovacott, and Newton Tracey Parish Council will be granted £3,950.00 to upgrade access to Lovacott Playing Field, making it more accessible for families, individuals, and community groups to enjoy outdoor activities.
Leader of North Devon Council, Councillor David Clayton, said: "Investing in community infrastructure is central to our commitment to enhancing quality of life across the district. The funds we’ve approved will make a tangible difference in these villages, supporting sustainable development, energy efficiency, and accessibility."
Under Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, contributions can be sought from developers towards the costs of providing extra community and social infrastructure as a result of the impact of new development in the area. These contributions can only be used for certain things, and are used primarily for public open space projects.
