Funding for victims of Barnstaple flash flood on 17 August 2020

The fund to provide financial support to households who were victims of the flash floods on 17 August is now available.

This is a one off fund, brought into effect largely due to the unprecedented circumstances presented in 2020, and based upon pledges from individual Councillor’s grant allocations.

Flood funding is available only to those impacted on the 17 August 2020 residing in the district of North Devon who haven’t got any home insurance to help with replacing damaged goods/works.

One of two levels of funding may be available:

Level 1: Up to £500 in cases where households have incurred significant loss of personal possessions and or damage to property or furnishings, and do not have sufficient resources to replace lost items and or pay for repairs/ refurbishment

Level 2: Up to £1000 in cases as above, but where there is also an immediate health and wellbeing risk. The money can be used to provide any measures which will ensure the health, safety and welfare of the occupants.

In order to demonstrate insufficient resources, applications are sought from those on low incomes, such as those in receipt of Universal Credit, Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction.

Applicants must have logged their property on Devon County Councils Flood Online Reporting Tool (FORT) prior to making any submission.

If you need assistance with registering your property as flooded on FORT please contact the Council’s Customer Services Team on 01271 327711.

In making your application you should have available any photographs of the flooding of the property concerned and receipts and invoices for any goods purchases/services received etc. You should also be able to upload proof of receipt of benefits.

Applications must be received prior to the 13 November 2020.
