How to apply or renew a taxi or private hire vehicle licence
To drive a private hire or taxi (hackney carriage) vehicle, you will need to license the vehicle you intend to use.
Apply for a Hackney carriage/private hire vehicle licence
You will also need to provide:
- The appropriate licence fee
- A vehicle registration document (V5) or lease document
- Certificate of insurance showing cover for hire purposes
- Current MOT certificate
- Vehicle inspection report
- A basic disclosure certificate from the DBS (unless the proprietor is already licenced as a North Devon hackney carriage/private hire driver

Conditions
Conditions apply to both Hackney carriage and private hire vehicles. There are also specific additional conditions for both types of vehicle. Details of general conditions are found in the Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy.
