Public health funerals
It is the council's duty to bury or cremate the body of a person who has died or who is found dead in the district if it appears that no-one is making suitable arrangements for their funeral. This is known as a public health funeral.
Please note we may seek to recover expenses incurred in connection with the burial or cremation of the deceased. This would be from their estate, if appropriate.
A list of public health funerals can be found on our open data page.
