North Devon Crematorium is involved in a national scheme to recycle metals remaining after a cremation.
The scheme is run by the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM) and is only carried out with the consent of the bereaved. Metals include orthopedic and dental implants and other metals.
As well as generating funds for charitable giving, the scheme also helps to reduce harmful pollutants being buried in the ground.
Each year we donate about £24,000 to local bereavement charities from the proceeds of the scheme. North Devon Hospice, CRUSE and Families in Grief have all benefited in the past.
The recycling service is carried out by OrthoMetals, following the consent of the bereaved.
