Parks, play areas and allotments

Information on council-owned open spaces

If you need to report a problem with one of our parks, please check it is on the below list and then report it online.

If it is not on the list, you can use our mapping tool to find out who is responsible for the land in question before proceeding to contact the relevant officer as you may need to contact your local town or parish council. To find out this information, please use the grounds maintenance filter.

North Devon Council owns and manages the following parks:

Barnstaple

  • Anchor Wood Conservation Area - wooded slope leading to the Tarka Trail
  • Bicton Street - play area suitable for 3-13 year olds. Space for ball games in the adjacent kickabout area
  • Castle Green - park within easy reach of the High Street. Well used for picnics. Within the park are the remains of a Norman Motte and Bailey castle
  • East Park Road - play area suitable for 3-13 year olds
  • Jordan Close - play area suitable for 3-13 year olds
  • Lower Moor - play area suitable for 3-8 year olds
  • Pilton Park - good sized play area suitable for 3-13 year olds. Plenty of space for ball games
  • Richmond Street - play area suitable for 3-13 year olds
  • Rock Park - large skatepark. The play area and sports pitches within the park are managed by Barnstaple Town Council
  • Rotary Gardens - park with good selection of trees and a tree trail
  • Silverwood Heights - play area suitable for 3-8 year olds
  • St Georges Road - play area suitable for 3-13 year olds
  • Tarka Trail - Barnstaple to Braunton cycle and footpath part of national cycle route 27 (Devon Coast to Coast)
  • Town Walk - play area suitable for 3-8 year olds
  • Westacott Road - play area suitable for 3-8 year olds. Plenty of space for ball games
  • Whiddon Valley Woodland - stream edged wooded slope with path running through it
  • Yeo Valley Woodland Local Nature Reserve - Green Flag award-winning park within a sheltered valley. Friends group and activities throughout the year

Braunton

  • Pill Gardens - play area suitable for 3-13 year olds
  • Caen View - play area suitable for 3-8 year olds
  • BMX pump track at Velator
  • Tarka Trail - Braunton to Barnstaple cycle and footpath part of national cycle route 27 (Devon Coast to Coast)

Fremington

  • Aspen Grove - play area suitable for 3-13 year olds
  • Fremington local nature reserve - wetland area rich in wildlife

 Ilfracombe

  • Bicclescombe Park - fine Victorian designed and Green Flag awarded park with a play area suitable for 3-13 year olds, tennis courts and pavilion, public toilets, model boating lake, Victorian gardens, mill and tea room. Join the Bicclescombe Park Improvement Group to get involved in the park
  • Brimlands - play area suitable for 3-13 year olds and plenty of room for ball games
  • The Cairn - Impressive wooded outcrop with a variety of paths winding their way through the site
  • Greenways - play area suitable for 3-13 year olds and a kick-about area
  • Hillsborough local nature reserve - impressive rugged rock promontory to the east of the town. South West coast path and remains of hill fort
  • Oxford Park - play area suitable for 8-13 year olds and an outdoor gym
  • Lantern Hill - has a small historic church perched on the outcrop
  • Larkstone - paths leading around the coast as part of the South West coast path (Bendricks skate park)
  • Princess Avenue - play area suitable for 3-13 year olds
  • Marine Drive/St James Park - steep park with excellent views of Ilfracombe Harbour and Verity
  • Seafront and Capstone Hill - seafront promenade that connects the rugged Capstone Hill to the crazy golf area and the Landmark Theatre and Ilfracombe museum
  • Slade - large play area suitable for 3-13 year olds. Multi-sports area catering for a variety of age groups
  • Southern Slopes and Runnymede Gardens - classic Victorian seaside landscaping that provides colour and great views
  • Tarka Trail Lee Bridge to Ilfracombe - cycle and footpath, part of national cycle route 27 (Devon Coast to Coast)

South Molton

  • Nadder Lane - play area suitable for 3-13 year olds. Multi-sports area
  • Parsonage Lane - play area suitable for 3-8 year olds

North Devon Council only manages the allotments at Jubilee Gardens, North Molton. For more information on this allotment, please email parks@northdevon.gov.uk.

Any other allotments in the district are managed by their local town and parish councils.
