- don't drop litter
- challenge those who do
- report littering and fly-tipping to us
- pick up litter when you come across it and consider organising your own litter pick event (we can help with equipment or you could make your own litter picker from wood/bamboo)
The maximum on-the-spot fine for littering is £100 (£80 if paid in 14 days). We can also issue penalty charge notices to vehicle owners if it can be proved litter was thrown from their car, even if it was discarded by somebody else.
We maintain and empty 350 litter bins across the district. On top of this, there are 12 public recycling bins in place, in areas like Barnstaple, Ilfracombe, Woolacombe, Instow and Combe Martin. These are emptied regularly, following an agreed programme.
