Since 5 June 2017 we have been trialling:

  • weekly unlimited recycling collection
  • three weekly black bin/bag collection

In addition to the district-wide introduction of:

  • chargeable garden waste
  • weekly kerbside food recycling

The trial area is shown below:

Container allocation

We will ensure that as a minimum every household in the trial area has access to:

240-litre wheelie bin or black bags provided where bins are not provided

  • 240-litre green bin; if you have subscribed to the chargeable green service
  • 8-litre kitchen caddy
  • 27-litre kerbside caddy
  • 55-litre recycling box
  • 1 brown recycling bag
  • 1 green recycling bag

Households can request unlimited recycling boxes, green bags and brown bags

Collection day and time

Collection calendars are available through our website, or can be posted out to customers on request.

Side waste/closed lid

We define ‘side waste’ as additional waste material placed for our collection which does not fit into the containers supplied or as waste left on top or at the side of a bin/container.

We define a ‘closed lid’ as a lid of a wheelie bin, which can be fully closed.

We will only collect waste contained within the containers and wheelie bins, with the bin lid fully closed and will not collect waste left outside the  wheelie bins, whether on the ground or on top.

Our collection crews will leave a sticker on an emptied bin on the first two occasions that the wheelie bin lid will not close. On a third occasion the bin will not be emptied and a red sticker will be placed on the bin.

We will resume our collection service on the next scheduled date. Where this process fails to resolve the issue, we will visit in order to identify any particular problems associated with the household.

Community assistance

Throughout the trial there will be a recycling advisor, who will be able to assist, advise and support householders.

To support customers and aid compliance with the trial the recycling advisor will assess situations and offer solutions. For example where:

  • the household has a large amount of residents
  • the household produces a large amount of nappies or absorbent hygiene products
  • the householder lives in a block of flats
  • someone else is putting waste into their black bin
